To say that the last few months have been busy is a huge understatement. My work commitments in the world of grant writing grew exponentially, leaving very little extra time for posting blog updates here, something I love. Despite feeling like we're running a race with no end in sight, I feel like the last few months have still allowed us to focus on some of our goals.
Softening Our Hearts...
After losing our dear friend Lynn and then spending a beautiful fall day last week honoring her at her Celebration of Life, I have been intentionally focusing on living better, laughing more, choosing joy and guarding our spare moments while connecting with friends and family. Lynn was famous for her contagious laughter and I find myself, still grieving, but looking at life with a lightened perspective, laughing at the things I cannot change. I know Lynn would want us all to learn from her passing to seize the day, embrace our loved ones with authentic prescence and to relish what we do each and every day.
Giving Up Perfection...
I spent an entire weekend prepping for upcoming meals by creating everything from pizza doughs and homemade hamburger buns to roasted marinara sauces for spaghetti and calzones. I made scones, muffins and cookie doughs along with "smoothie bags" prepped for early morning departures. Although some of the meals ended up not being "the best", we had meals on the table and did not have to resort to the local Thai and pizza establishments.
Connor has been going to informal basketball practices three days a week that literally start before dawn (the stars are still out when he leaves each morning) and I have had to "rethink" what breakfast looks like. My kids have been spoiled with hot breakfasts for years and as a result, are not huge fans of cold cereal. I have been researching and experimenting with items that I can make in advance and can be quickly eaten on the run (suggestions welcome). His suggestions included Chocolate Muscle Milk and Brownie Cliff Bars. (Learning to comment gently.)
