20 Fun June Activities and Days to Celebrate the Month
You know I love lists.
Especially lists that give me ideas on how to make a normal day extraordinary.
So here you go.
Here are 20 ways to make June extraordinary!
National Candy Month - Sally Quinn of Sally's Baking Addiction just came out with a new cookbook, Sally's Candy Addiction that covers her creations for tasty truffles, fudges and treats for your sweet-tooth fix. I'm sure I would want one of each of her lovely concoctions!
Dairy Month - I could come up with a million ways to celebrate dairy month and each one would involve ice cream (or gelato)! If you are near Portland, Oregon and share my love of ice cream, you must pop into Salt & Straw. They make incredible ice cream with unique flavor combinations. My favorite's Blue Cheese and Pear. It sounds strange but it's the perfect blend and still sweet, of course!
Turkey Lovers Month - it's so strange that the turkey gets celebrated in June when it's challenging to find even a frozen turkey at the grocer. I guess we should be celebrating the living birds. I'm making this recipe for Turkey Hawaiian Meatballs as it's not only healthy but also a cinch to make and a family favorite.
Go pick strawberries and make this Unbelievable Fresh Strawberry Pie! In my neck of the woods the strawberries are ripe and there is typically a Strawberry Festival.
Hamburger Month - have you ever tried the Hubs' recipe for these divine Blue Cheese Stuffed Bacon Burgers?
Week 1 - National Fishing Week - For a little fishing destination inspiration, this article highlights the Best Fishing Towns in America or the Best Fishing in America infographic and the Top 10 Fishing Spots in the World!
June 1 - Happy National Dare Day and Flip a Coin Day - I think you know what to do today!
June 2 - Leave Work Early Day and National Rocky Road Day - This Rocky Road ice cream recipe sounds divine!
June 3 - National Applesauce Cake Day - This Applesauce Cake recipe was voted as excellent on Allrecipes. I think it sounds great for breakfast!
National Aquarium Month - We are fortunate to have an amazing aquarium not too far away in Oregon Coast Aquarium!
The First Friday in June - June 6 - National Doughnut Day! I really want to try Ree Drummond's recipe for Homemade Glazed Doughnuts that even has a great video for visual instructions!
First Saturday in June - National Trails Day - According to Ignacio Malpica, a certified fitness instructor and personal trainer in Boulder, Colorado, “Hiking exercises your body and your mind, and nourishes your imagination. It creates awareness in your eyes and ears and the rest of your senses.” Here's a little hiking inspiration with resources to Map your Hike, All Trails and many other ideas to get you out hiking those trails.
June 8 - World Ocean Day and National Best Friend Day
June 10 - Iced Tea Day - Just last week I tried a homemade version of the Arnold Palmers that my kids love by mixing lemonade (or limeade) with iced tea drink mix and it was so refreshing!
June 11 - National Corn on the Cob Day - Have you ever tried grilling your corn on the cob? It's a must try!
June 12 - National Jerky Day - What a great day to make a batch of jerky smoked on the grill (if it's a warm day outside). I was so shocked the first time I tried my hand at jerky on how easy it was (marinate the meat and cook at a low heat for an extended period of time). For the price we pay for a bag of jerky, I need to make our own more often!
June 13 - National Blame Someone Else Day - Please don't tell my kids about this one. We already have this issue around here. Who left the door open? Who plugged the toilet?
June 14 - Flag Day and World Juggling Day
June 15 - Fly a Kite Day
June 16 - Fresh Veggies Day - Around here, we prefer our vegetables fresh, or lightly steamed but most often plain and raw. I know it sounds a little boring, but imagine the ease and speed of pulling out fresh vegetables for dinner! Our favorites are raw peppers (red and yellow being the favorites), fresh peas in the pod, broccoli, cucumbers, carrots and fresh green beans. This Carrot Apple Chopped Salad is a great way to incorporate fresh vegetables into a sweet and sour weeknight side dish.
June 18 - National Picnic Day - Perhaps it's the romantic in me, but I am a huge fan of picnics. This Olive Lover's Muffuletta Sub Sandwich is the perfect picnic recipe.
June 18 - National Sushi Day
June 19 - Recess at Work Day
June 20 - Take Your Dog to Work Day - Buddy is my "work partner" everyday. He must find me a little strange when I find myself asking him the occasional question. He always answers with a wagging tail. The best answer of all.
June 21 - Father's Day (Third Sunday in June), Summer Solstice and Go Skate Day! - Hmmm...do you think the Hubs would enjoy a late night skate at the park? How does one celebrate all three special occasions on the same day?
June 22 - National Chocolate Eclair Day - This stuffed chocolate eclair recipe from Paula Deen sounds like it would be easy to whip these out in celebration of this day or for a variation, her easy Eclair Cake would be perfect too!
June 24 - Swim a Lap Day
June 27 - Frozen Yogurt Day - Serious Eats advertises having the Best and Easiest Frozen Yogurt recipe and it only uses 1 quart plain yogurt, 1 cup sugar and 1/4 teaspoon kosher salt.
June 29 - Log Cabin Day and Waffle Iron Day - For the longest time, I've wanted to try putting brownie batter onto our waffle iron to bake up a quick snack. I originally saw a popular Pinterest pin that put hash brown potatoes on a waffle iron. May have to try one of these ideas on the 29th!
June 29 - Hug Holiday - Who needs an excuse to hug someone? Today is the day!
June 30 - Ice Cream Soda Day - What is your favorite ice cream soda recipe? I am a sucker for A&W's Rootbeer Floats, made with homemade vanilla ice cream. Nothing better.
